Brett Boadle

Local poet Brett Boadle was born in 1960 at Sacred Heart (now John Fawkner) Hospital in Coburg, Victoria. Brett’s love of poetry was seeded early in his life at Templestowe Primary School. At high school he had a number of teachers that encouraged his creativity, including Pam Chessell and Dr Neil Bechervaise. Throughout his teenage years his poems were regularly published in the Yarra Valley Grammar school newsletter.

Inspired by his uncle, Dr Neil R Gordon, Brett focused on the sciences in his further education, and in 1983 he completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) at the University of Melbourne. He then worked in his family business before becoming a full time house-husband from 1995.

Poetry has always been an important part of his life and in 1997 he published his first collection, ‘Visions of Blue’.  This short run edition is now out of print.

In recent years Brett has shared his poetry with friends and neighbours through regular readings at the Alphington Community Centre lunches and other social events. Brett is almost part of the furniture at Alphington Community Centre, having consistently attended since 2003.

To hear Brett read his poetry you can join us here at ACC any Friday morning (during school term) from 11.30am for Morning Tea on the Corner.
