Book recommendations to share

Hi Kalimna here.

When taking photos of our ‘honestly ‘ letter project recently, our neighbour Glen struck up a conversation with Lee and I about two wonderful books he said were the best gifts he had ever received.

The books he was referring to are Living on Stolen Land by Ambelin Kwaymullina and Kindred by Kirli Saunders.

He noted that Living on Stolen Land should be mandatory reading for all Australian children. I was convinced, and will be sharing this book with my children; heartfelt recommendations like this don’t come along everyday.

You can find out more via this link to Magabala Books.

Thank you Glen for sharing these book recommendations with us.

Yarn bombing

A few weeks ago I knitted a little purple square and am feeling quite proud when I see it incorporated in our lovely yarn bombed handrails out the front of ACC.

Of course I do realise that it is only one of many … but it’s nice to have contributed!

Thanks Anne and Glenda for taking the time to add a bit of home crafted love to our centre.

If you are keen to join in low key yarn bombing or to learn how to sew and stitch - Anne’s is a willing teacher if you need some advice … we’d love to see you at ACC on a Friday morning. Come along and join in from 10-11.30am, and then stay for morning tea on the corner at 11.30am.

Our little seed library is full ...

Our seed library has been restocked lately and there are lots of lovely daffodil bulbs you can collect, and a variety of herbs and leafy greens as well.

If you are contemplating some gardening in the school holidays why not pop past and take a look at the seeds our community is sharing?

And don’t forget to collect seeds from your own garden to share with others. Drying them out and packaging them up could be a lovely project to do with you kids (or grandkids) in the school holidays!

Hidden in plain sight

How fun!

The Environmental Performance Authority (EPA) leads an experiential walk through Alphington, with performances along the way.

For this event, Environmental Performance Authority (EPA) asked City of Yarra residents about what they found during their permitted hours of 'exercise' in Melbourne's Covid-19 lockdowns. From these stories and their own explorations, EPA have created a seres of performances and participatory activities to draw out some of the wondrous and surprising qualities and features of Alphington.

WHEN: 2-5pm on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of March (this weekend)

WHERE: Meeting point: Yerrin Chase (at the end of Perry St), Alphington, VIC 3078, northern edge of Coate Park

The walk will go for approximately 2-3 hours, ending at Alphington Park.

WEAR: weather appropriate comfortable walking clothes, shoes and bring water bottle, hat, sunscreen.

Supported by the City of Yarra

Harmony day picnic
IMG_3681.jpeg

Keen to get out of the hood? Perhaps take a local bike ride? North Carlton Railway House is a fabulous neighbourhood house in Princes Hill in the old station building (from the days of the inner circle train line). The line is now a lovely green corridor bike path/walking track that connects through North Fitzroy to the Princes Park ovals.

Why not head that way on Wednesday the 24th of March from 12pm - 2pm for a Harmony Day picnic in the garden? Play bocce, enjoy a free latte and multicultural snack, along with singing and dancing.

You can find Railway House at 20 Solly Avenue, Princes Hill.
