Recycled Timber Design Workshop

I f you came along to the Alphington Open Studios event at ACC in December last year you would have seen some really beautiful recycled timber chopping boards made by local artisan Jane Hausegger.

In Term 2 she has offered to run a workshop for us here at ACC, to teach people in the community how to select, cut, finish and dress recycled timber to safely use for kitchen products (that make amazing gifts) such as coffee paddles and chopping boards.

If you are interested in developing your timber skills you’ll love this course that has a focus on simple, beautiful and sustainable creations.

The workshop is on Saturday 6 May from 10am-12pm in our Community Shed and it costs $130 (which includes all materials). You can book in here.

Women in the shed bookings open

Are you keen to join our Women in the Shed program for 2023? We’re now taking bookings for Term 1 and Term 2. Just head to our website here to book in.

It is a wonderful 6 week program that runs on Thursdays for 6 weeks. In the course you will be introduced to all the basic tools in a shed and will get to practise using them across a series of projects.

So … you’ll finish the course with a whole lot of new skills, loads of confidence and some lovely creations.

Women in the Shed is run by Maylei Hunt and is a really popular program. So if you are interested to join up you should book in sooner rather than later! If you miss out on a place, please email us at info@alphington.org.au and we will be able to add you to the waiting list.

Starting this week

Term 3 of Women in the Shed starts today - this Thursday at 10am. This program is fully booked again for this term and next - it is wonderful that we have so much consistent interest from our community!

We are also starting up our AAA Arts program on Fridays from 1pm. This course will combine painting, print making and woodwork and will be led by Clare with help from Corrado who has recently started volunteering with us on Fridays.

It is a free access all abilities program (please note that carers will need to stay and help if needed) that is kindly supported by our lovely Community Bank friends just down the road in Clifton Hill.

A few places left in our Women in the Shed Program

Our Women in the Shed program run by Maylei is a short course that introduces you to all the tools typically found in a home garage - through a series of practical projects. Jump online and join in this award winning and wonderfully empowering program.

We have two spots left for Term 3 and usually it is fully booked. So if it is something you have always wanted to do then here is your chance.

Click on this link and enrol now.

Term 3 begins on Thursday July 28th at 10am - 2pm.

Term 4 begins on Thursday October 20th at 10am-2pm.

The course runs for 6 weeks and costs $90 with Learn Local funding supporting the program.
