Barbie

We’re off to see Barbie with Movie Club on Tuesday 8 August. Tickets are $12 on cheap Tuesday … The movie starts at 12.50pm at Westgarth Cinema and we’ll be catching the 12.27pm train from Alphington if PT is your thing …

Personally I am really looking forward to it - I have heard lots of good feedback. And it’s always fun to keep up with the latest things right?

If you are thinking of coming along to Movie Club for the first time please let us know so we can look out for you. Email info@alphington.org.au or call 94997227.

Here’s the link to buy online tickets if you are super organised. Or you can just buy them when we arrive … it’s not usually packed out!

See you there. Leanne

Street planting

Over the last month or so we’ve been working on the somewhat neglected garden bed right at the front corner of our site. It’s always been a bit unkempt, and we’ve never quite known if we are maintaining it or if Council is. But recently we officially agreed that we would take charge into the future … and we started giving it a new lease of life with a little garden bed on top (donated by the neighbours across the road when they moved out - thanks!) and we filled it with fogo compost goodness … and we also took out the scrappy woody bushes that were making it awkward to sit on the bench seat … all in preparation for the planting of an insect attracting garden.

This week (on Friday) we started our replacement planting, thanks Darebin Council for the tube stock. We’ve got lots of lovely low growing mostly local indigenous plants going in - building on the legacy the Graeme started with the grasses he planted a few years ago - and we’re hoping the new plants survive and thrive. We’ll also be adding in some fabulous outdoor art I expect (we just have to come up with an inspiring idea!). So keep an eye out …

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the planting - and thanks to all the passers by who shared words of encouragement as we toiled away!

Electrify Darebin

Here’s an invitation from Natalie at Darebin Council. Thanks Natalie.

Given the recent climate news from around the world we know it’s a good time to be connecting with others. We are sensing a groundswell of community interest around taking climate action – electrification in particular.

So we are inviting you to hear climate campaigner and author of Together We Can, Claire O’Rourke share stories and experiences of her community’s steps towards supporting everyone to get to an electric future faster.

Join this conversation to think about how Darebin communities can learn and support each other to electrify our homes and businesses.

In this session we will also have time for stories from the floor so we can hear what folks are thinking about and doing around Darebin.

I think you will really enjoy Claire and her stories – she has been all over the country and met some amazing people that are doing great things!
