All the dogs go out for a walk ... or 3!

A post from Jill today … our dog smitten colleague (and much loved host of the annual Alphington Dog Show!). Here we go …

There’s lots of wagging tails out there as many of us in households are walking our dogs at least once a day. And now we’re in the cold months I’m noticing some very worthy dog coats, suits and rain wear. How lucky they are to have such compassionate owners?

I’ve observed around Yarra, where I live, that the parks and walking paths are busier than ever. And this is a good thing. We’re all out getting exercise and taking time to be outdoors even when it’s cold - and our dogs are benefiting from having us in lockdown -for company and walks.

I don’t own a dog myself at the moment but I am the temporary minder of two. The first dog I look after is Monty - a very handsome labradoodle who I met in the park five years ago when he was a pup. I swapped phone numbers with his owner and we became friends … and I still spend time with Monty weekly. My other special dog friend Millie. She has gone to Daylesford to stay in her caravan till this all passes and I am missing her.

Alphington has a large population of people who love their dogs (we see the best of it each year in the Alphington Dog Show). Recently I’ve been working in the office on Wednesdays for a few hours. As I sit at my computer I look out the window and see so many dogs and their owners walking by …

When I went out for a coffee just before I admired a very well behaved guide dog in training. It was sitting patiently beside its handler showing off its black shiny coat.

And as I look up now there three dogs outside. One is a tan and white border collie that seems particularly well trained as it lies there just beyond its owner, in readiness for its next adventure. Over the road there’s a reddish brown thick coated medium sized dog sniffing something found in the grass. And the old black Labrador is passing by again - its grey muzzle on the ready down low figuring out who’s been around lately.

Perhaps these are your gorgeous dogs? Pats and love to all our four legged companions - I’m going home to await Monty to be dropped off for his weekly visit.
