Blind date with a book: on the street

IMG_0585.jpeg

We were pretty excited on Friday to get our new placemaking project ‘Blind date with a book’ out on Station Street.

Lee finished painting it on Thursday night and on Friday morning we put it in the car and took it down there. It fit (in the car) - our first success.

Then, as we were setting up Heather came past. Just in time to feature in our promotional video - our second success.

Then, we nervously left it on the street hoping people would be brave enough to use it. By lunchtime I saw some social media posts about it - our third success.

By the time we went back down at 4pm all the books were gone. Surely we can count that as number four for the day!

What a day of thrills (it really is the little things in these times right).

So, here’s the video we made about the project, featuring Lee and the lovely Heather.

‘Blind date with a book’ will be out on Station Street Fridays for 10 weeks. This project is a collaboration with Darebin Libraries and also stocks books from Fairfield Books. It has been funded by a Darebin Business grant as part of Council’s broader COVID-19 recovery program.

Hopefully when you’re next shopping locally you’ll come across it and be able to grab YOURSELF a ‘blind date’ for the weekend.
