Alphington Arts - basket weaving

Alphington Arts, our new night time arts group will kick off on Thursday 18 July at 7.30pm. The idea behind this group is that we keep costs down by different people sharing their creative knowledge and skills. We’ll have 4 sessions over the coming semester (2 per term).

And first up we’ll be exploring basket weaving with Kayti Murphy. You may have seen Kayti’s baskets at our makers markets - or bought her teatowels and/or pickled radishes.

Thanks so much Kayti for volunteering to share your knowledge and skills.

So … if you are keen to join in you can join up for the semester here.

And then come along for some low key creative evenings. BYO drinks and/or snacks to share if you are so inclined.

Semester 2 at ACC

Keen to know what is in the pipeline at ACC for the second half of the year?

We have just put together a new brochure that you can collect from outside the centre or check out on our website.

Here it is! We’ve got lots of creative things on the cards … and some new fitness classes. Take a look. You can book in on our website.

Movie club

Last year our movie club met in the day. This semester we are going to try early evenings.

Our first date will be on Tuesday 16 July. We will meet at Westgarth Cinema (to take advantage of cheap Tuesday tickets) and then go somewhere local to chat about it afterwards - maybe Kelvins?

If you are interested let us know here and we will add you to the WhatsApp group.

We generally find out the exact details of the movie times and what is showing the previous week - so it is a little bit rushed … Note that you are welcome to put your two bobs in if you have a preference for something you want to see.

We hope you can come along!

Crunch - continuing next semester

Our new program Crunch (Creative Lunch) has been fabulous this term. We’ve met lots of lovely new people and reconnected with friends in the neighbourhood through the program.

Next semester Crunch will run for 6 weeks a term. On Thursdays from 12.30 til 2pm. For $15 you can come along for lunch and then enjoy an art experience with Lee.

You will need to book in on our website (just so we know how much food to make and how many paint brushes etc. to get out!). The dates will be added this week - if you are keen to book in early.

Here are some amazing botanical prints we made this week - just to get you inspired! We hope to see you after the holidays.

Last week of term

It is the last week of Term 2 and we have been busy.

  • Jill and the amazing volunteers from the bowls club who support her, have once again done a fabulous job running an engaging and well attended access all abilities bowls program down at the Alphington Bowls Club on Wednesday mornings. The program generally runs for 6 weeks a term but we always take a break in Term 3 due to the cold weather (that has been even more noticeable this year right!). Rest assured, it will back up and running in Term 4. Register your interest online and Jill will be in contact.

  • Clare, with the help of our lovely Friday volunteers Corrado and Hazel, has had a super term with our access all abilities artists on Friday afternoons, and they finished the 8 week program off by inviting all the participants to join us for lunch on Friday, followed by some bingo and karaoke. Everyone had lots of fun! The AAA Arts program will continue in Term 3 and 4. Register your interest online.

  • CWA food has been amazing this term at Community Lunch. Thanks in Margaret for organsing … and for the sweet items - they are much appreciated. Thanks also to Silvana, Mish, Miranda and Anne who cooked for us!

  • Our gardens are looking great and Clare and Corrado (along with a host of other volunteers) have worked to get the compost from our nature strip onto the beds around our centre over the last few weeks. They finished off the front garden on the corner on Friday. Our pile is getting smaller! With our annual bulbs popping up, fresh compost on the beds and new plantings in the ground and in the raised beds our garden is starting to look colourful (after the dry of summer). Next term we’ll be embarking on the annual pruning of our fruit trees. If anyone would like a little lesson on tackling fruit tree pruning keep an eye out for when we will do it here. You will be very welcome to come along and learn from Clare.

We’ve got lots of new things starting up in term 2, and the brochure is nearly complete. We’ll put it up on our website as soon as it is done. We’ll also print some and put them out the front for collection if you are passing by.

Please note that we are on holidays from this Friday for 2 weeks. We’ll be back on deck from Monday 15 July.
