What's happening at ACC?
Well as you know, we’re not quite as busy as usual at ACC with programming on hold … but there are still a few things happening … and we are anticipating more to come along as we all adjust to the our new world order. In the meantime, here’s 3 things to note …
ASRC Donations
Did you know Andy is still at ACC on Thursday mornings to collect donations for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre? At 12pm each Thursday he takes all the donations from our community over to Footscray.
The ASRC is supporting some of the most vulnerable in our community - those that lack a financial or medical safety net.
If you head to the shops and buy some extra things you can swing past ACC anytime - we’re at 2 Kelvin Road, Alphington - and look out for the sign on our back gate. Then head on in to the dark grey roller-door shed. You can leave your non-perishable donations inside! Or pop past from 10am-12pm on a Thursday and catch Andy if you have perishable goods.
Alphington CWA
Interested in the four ‘c’s - craft, cooking , community and country (the last is optional - perhaps we should say city instead)? You might like to join the Alphington CWA - a bunch of dynamic women who get stuff done! They craft, cook, support community causes and charities and work together as a collective across the country to advocate for women and children and the issues that affect them. Our CWA is moving with the times and embracing all the modern things, like Whats App chats and Zoom face-to-face meetings. They are resilient, adaptable and creative women! If this sounds like a group for you then you might like to contact Michelle on 0419 336 649 to find out how you can be involved.
Our new ramp
As the NDIS has rolled out over the last couple of years many people with disabilities now have support workers who can help them participate in the activities they most enjoy. At ACC we have responded to the growing need in our community for programs that enable people of all abilities to participate. We have specific Access All Abilities programs such as AAA in the Shed, AAA Bowls and AAA Art, and we also welcome everyone of all abilities to participate in all our programs, including Community Craft!, Community Lunch and playgroups. However, a major barrier at ACC has been our access, which has not been particularly wheelchair friendly.
So, if you see the big hole out the front of our door as you go past on your daily neighbourhood walk/run/ride, it is because we are having a ramp installed. Which will be great … when it’s done! I know … and I agree that it’s not looking that flash today …
