The weekly list: food options
Hi everyone!
Here’s a long story, but my husband Clive’s workmate Stephen put a great list together for the Sumner Estate (North Fitzroy/Northcote) community newsletter of food delivery and takeaway options available. And instead of reinventing the wheel I am modifying his post and links. So thanks for sharing it with Clive, Stephen. I am sure you wont mind your neighbourly love being spread into our neighbourhood too!
And whilst I am acknowledging people, I dedicate this post to Liz, who contacted us about food boxes and delivery options, which was excellent, because we are all keen to know right?
And on a related point, it would be great to know if anyone out there would be willing to shop for others in the neighbourhood? We’ve had some requests … If you could help someone out (you can of course do it on your own terms) you can email us here.
Anyway, here we go.
EMERGENCY FOOD RELIEF
Darebin Council is partnering with Darebin Information Volunteer Resource Service (DIVRS) and other local agencies to immediately provide 500 households with grocery vouchers weekly. You can contact DIVRS on 9480 8200 Monday-Thursday between 9.30am and 12.30pm. You can also contact us and we’ll facilitate the process for you.
Salvation Army in Preston is also providing emergency food relief and other practical support. This would be a good port of call for those struggling to get by on student visas, working visas, temporary visas etc. You can contact them on 9478 0694 or corpsofficer.preston@salvationarmy.org.au.
A number of Darebin community organisations are also working together to provide and distribute weekly pre-prepared meals. If you or a loved one or neighbour have trouble cooking for yourself please let us know and we’ll drop off some meals for you. The meals come from FairShare and the vegetarian options are prepared by Lentil as Anything. Just call us on 9499 7227 or email us here.
If you are self-isolating, you may also be eligible for an emergency relief package. Call the dedicated coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398. The hotline can also refer people to other support services if needed. Each eligible household will receive a two-week supply of essential goods.
